The Best Metal for Your Moissanite Ring

The metal type you choose for your forever ring makes a big impact. Not only do all the metal options look different, but they also reflect your style, your taste, and often influence the rest of your jewellery. When it comes to making your choice, there is no right or wrong answer - the best metal is the one you love the most.

Australian Moissanite

At The Moissanite Company, we craft our rings from four types of high-quality metals, with different grades available, resulting in a choice of seven metals when purchasing or designing your ring.

We use only the highest quality metals to ensure your forever ring will last a lifetime.

Gold:
An eternally popular choice, gold is a fashionable and durable option for jewellery.

Gold is graded in karats (not to be confused with carats), which is a unit measuring the percentage of pure gold in your jewellery. Pure gold (24K) on its own is too soft for everyday jewellery and shows scratches and dents easily. This is why other metals like copper, palladium and zinc are mixed with gold to create more usable grades of gold that are stronger and more durable - most commonly 18K, 14K and 9K.

At The Moissanite Company, we offer gold in 3 different tones: yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold, all available in 18K and 14K grades.

Yellow Gold:

A classic choice, yellow gold has a warm colour and has been popular for decades. 14K yellow gold has a softer tone of warm yellow, while 18K yellow gold offers a richer yellow tone and is more lustrous. Yellow gold delivers a beautiful contrast with moissanite stones, and is often said to suit warmer skin tones better.

Rose Gold:

Beautifully feminine, rose gold has a soft, pink colour and is increasingly popular. 14K rose gold is softer in colour, whereas 18K rose gold delivers a more strongly coloured rose tone. Rose gold offers a stunning, feminine look and is often said to suit warmer skin tones better.

White Gold:

More neutral in colour, white gold has a simplistic, lightest gold tone. Often compared to silver, which has a slightly grey tone, white gold has more of a white hue to the metal and is far more durable. 14K white gold will appear softer in colour, while 18K white gold has a slightly more gold tone. White gold requires plating with rhodium to achieve its bright, shiny finish, and needs to be replated ideally once per year. It is often said to suit cooler skin tones better, and matches well with moissanite stones while not detracting from them.

Platinum:

A different type of metal entirely, platinum is an incredibly durable, white toned metal. It requires less mixing with other metals, and is therefore more pure, more dense and more expensive than gold. It offers a neutral tone, suiting cooler skin tones well, and is well paired with our moissanite stones.
